Tonemap Tuner on the App Store

New — just released on the App Store. A real-time intonation visualizer, built by Jeremy Black and tested by professional musicians across the USA. Tonemap listens as you play and paints each note onto a color-coded grid — green in tune, yellow sharp, blue flat — turning intonation tendencies into a picture you can practice from. Free, with no account and no ads; audio never leaves your device. Pro upgrades for Hard Mode and Quick Record. Built for iPhone and iPad, and it runs just as well on Apple Silicon Macs.

No install needed — Tonemap also runs free in any browser at tonemap.live. New to it? How It Works is five short videos on YouTube.

Tonemap on iPhone: a grid of note names, each cell colored green, yellow, or blue by intonation, with F3 held as the current pitch.

Orange Blossom Special — a reworked solo fiddle part for Carmen Dragon’s orchestral arrangement.

Finger Extensions and Substitutions — These exercises are intended to help violinists with intonation and confidence in every position, and the practical use of extensions in performance. Initially inspired by C. L. Hanon’s exercises in The Virtuoso Pianist, they should be used as a supplement to existing works such as Carl Flesch’s Scale System, Otakar Ševčík’s Changes of Position and Preparatory Scale Studies, Op. 8, Henry Schradieck’s The School of Violin Technics, and Demetrius Dounis’ The Artist’s Technique of Violin Playing.
